Programme Calendar

The below table outlines key dates on the LLM programme, such as enrolment, teaching and assessment dates. Students are expected to be in attendance at UCL during the term time, but are permitted to be absent during the specified holiday periods.

Students on Tier 4 visas considering dates for travel outside of the UK or work within the UK should familiarise themselves with their responsibilities for visa compliance on the UCL International Student Support website.

Date(s) Event
Enrolment and Induction
24 September Students enrol in person at the college on Sunday 24 September.
25-29 September Students enrol with the Faculty of Laws on Monday 25 September and receive induction materials.
Induction events will be held over this 5-day period. A programme of events will be emailed to offer-holders during the summer months.
Term One: 02 October to 16 December 2017 (10 weeks of teaching)
02 October Teaching begins. Students attend lectures and seminars, and tutorials for modules that have them. In November, students must submit a provisional title and outline of their Independent Research Essay (IRE), in the area of their LLM degree pathway.
06-10 November Reading week. No teaching takes place in this week, except for LAWSG119 which is taught jointly with King’s College London.
15 December End of Term One. Christmas vacation runs from Friday 15 December 2016 until Monday 08 January 2017 and students are permitted to be absent from the programme and from UCL.
Term Two: 09 January to 24 March 2018 (10 weeks of teaching)
08 January Start of Term Two. Students continue to attend lectures and seminars, and tutorials for modules that have them. Students are allocated an IRE Advisor to provide guidance on the process of preparing and writing their IRE.
12-16 February Reading week. No teaching takes place in this week, except for LAWSG119 which is taught jointly with King’s College London.
23 March End of Term Two. Easter vacation runs from Friday 23 March until Monday 23 April 2018 and students are permitted to be absent from the programme and from UCL.
Term Three: 24 April to 9 June 2018 (Examinations & Coursework Essays)
23 April Start of Term Three – no regular teaching. Some revision classes and IRE support seminars will be available. Students are expected to be present at UCL for the duration of Term Three, even if they have completed all examinations.
25 April, 12pm midday Deadline for all final (summative) essays for all LLM modules.
09 June Last possible date to meet with IRE Advisor.
Summer Term: 26 June to 03 September 2018 (Independent Research Essay)
24 June – 03 September Students are expected to participate in the IRE Colloquia and be finalising their IRE for submission by the deadline of 03 September 2018.
July IRE Colloquia sessions take place on select dates over a 3-week period. Students choose the session they wish to attend.
18 July Submission opens for the IRE.
August Provisional marks for examinations and module essays will be available.
Late August – early September Summer assessment period for students who need to retake an exam or resubmit a module essay.
03 September Deadline for students to submit their IRE.
Enrolment on the Programme Ends
Late October Provisional marks for the IRE and provisional degree awards will be available.
Late November Degree awards ratified by UCL Board of Examiners.
December – February Student and Registry Services begin sending academic transcripts and degree certificates to students.
July to August 2019 Graduation ceremonies take place during the summer months in the year following your completion of the programme.
