LLB Dual Degree English and German Law with Universität zu Köln

UCAS course code: M146

With growing demand in Europe for lawyers qualified in more than one jurisdiction, UCL Laws offers a dual degree programme involving two years of study at UCL and two years of study in Germany at the Universität zu Köln. This programme leads to the award of both the LLB English and German Law honours degree from UCL and the LLB from the Universität zu Köln.

The LLB is not a fully qualifying law degree in Germany, but after completing the UCL LLB and Köln LLB, you will be given the opportunity to remain enrolled at the Universität zu Köln in order to take the German First State Exam.

Please note, to be eligible to enrol on and satisfy all academic requirements for the German First State Exam, if you are applying on the basis of UK A-Level qualifications, you must have studied Mathematics or a natural science subject as one of your three A-Level subjects.

In addition to the standard entry requirements to the course, you will also be required to demonstrate complete fluency in German. Students who are enrolled on this programme are not normally allowed to transfer to another LLB programme at UCL Laws.

The structure of the programme during years one and two (when you will be based at UCL), are similar to years one and two of the LLB Law programme, with the exception of an additional module which is taught in German and is focused on German law.

This programme is recognised by the two main legal professional bodies, the Bar Council and the Solicitors Regulation Authority, for the purpose of exemption from the academic stage of their professional examinations.
